The ranch is in probate and the llamas, about a dozen, are being
fed a half bale of hay a week. A renter is trying to get some
help but the local sheriff and animal control won't do anything
until there are some dead animals.

Try contacting the South Eastern Llama Rescue ( http://leftofcentercreative.com/
). Although they are mainly and east coast organization, they may be
able to assist

Good luck!

I got a hold of someone in the same state, Washington. They seem
very concerned and are looking into the matter. I'll keep
everyone informed.

I'm on the board of SELR and also on some national llama lists. If you
can give me more info, I can spread it around. Washington's a big
state, so unless your acquaintance is local, he may not be able to do much.

By the way, SELR's website name is www.southeastllamarescue.org -
although Tracy at Left of Center Creative is our talented designer. Her
site must be a mirror site.

"...the local sheriff and animal control won't do anything until there

Often they have the jurisdiction over neglected livestock.

The one contact is 200 miles away. Email me at dave at
thellamaranch dot com and I'll send you the email of the guy that
is renting a house at the ranch where the llamas are. He's just a
renter and has no means to make sure the llamas are fed right.

I'll suggest that to the guy at the ranch. Anything would be of
help.

I hate it when things like that happen and hate it even more when
you can't get help from those that are supposed to deal with those
situations.

Ran into a similer problem about 10 or so years ago but it was horses
that were being neglected and not fed. I had a couple of buddies
that
were horse people and who also happened to be law enforcement. We
just had to show up at the place and that solved the problem. Horses
were immediatly taken care of after that. If not, we would have
simply
gone back and "removed" the horses and taken them elsewhere.

I understand. I have "removed" a llama from a neglected
situation. We knew the llama was abused and did not get along
with people because of that. We "placed" the llama in a several
hundred acre sheep ranch that night. We drove by months later and
he was still there happily guarding HIS flock of sheep.
